  • Earth Hour, Environmentalism, and Deception

    Night Falls on Civilization

    Author: Daniel Greenfield

Forget the World's Fair, we now have a new way to celebrate human accomplishment. Instead of seeing a vision of the future, we turn off the lights and sit in the dark for an hour.

    darkness

Earth Hour shows how far we have come from celebrating human accomplishment to celebrating the lack of accomplishment as an accomplishment. For all the pretense of activism, environmentalism celebrates inaction. Don't build, don't create and don't do-- are its mandates. Turn off the lights and feel good about how much you aren't doing right now.

Environmentalism has degenerated into a conviction that all human activity is destructive because the species of man is the greatest threat to the planet and all life on it. Each death, each act of undoing and unmaking, each darkness that is brought about by the cessation of humanity becomes a profoundly environmentalist activity.

Kill yourself and save the planet. Put out the lights, tear down the city and let the earth revert to some imaginary primeval paradise free of all pollution; whether it is the carbon breath of men, dogs and cows or the light pollution of their cities.

    Embrace the darkness.

While we take electric light for granted-- being able to read and write after dark is a technological achievement that transformed our civilization. Animals are governed by day and night cycles. Artificial light made it possible for us to work independently of the day and night cycle.

During the recent extended blackout after Hurricane Sandy, some of us had a brief period of reverting to a pre-technological civilization in which work was governed by day and night cycles. And that was a reminder that there is no way to measure the increase in knowledge gained from the conquest of the darkness. There is no better measure of the unthinking contempt of the environmentalist movement for that achievement than a call to turn off the lights and sit in the dark.

Like all environmental gimmicks, Earth Hour is perverse and hypocritical. Far more energy is consumed promoting it, then is saved by practicing it.

Websites switch to black, even though displaying black on television sets or monitors consumes more energy. Turning off electricity to entire buildings after working hours and then turning it on costs more than letting it run. And getting 90 million people across the country to turn their power on and off at a scheduled time is an energy savings disaster. And since power companies draw down on their more expensive 'green' generators first, Earth Hour actually shuts down 'green' power.
[Related Article: How the Environmental Movement Is Killing Innovation and Destroying Our Environment]

But its sponsors don't claim that Earth Hour saves energy or prevents us from polluting the globe. Like every environmentalist stunt from flying rock stars around the world on jet planes to carving thousands of statues made of ice and then leaving them to melt in a public square, Earth Hour is meant to spread awareness.

Spreading awareness is the sole purpose of most environmental activism. Awareness spreading doesn't make anything better, but makes people feel guilty, outraged, hopeful or some combination of the appropriate political sentiments in the face of an imminent armageddon that can only be fought by convincing everyone to be deeply concerned by it and disdainful of everyone who stands outside their Chicken Little consensus.

The WWF, Earth Hour's godmother, has learned that shrill attention seeking is a reliable fundraising method. One of the WWF's more memorable fundraising methods was an ad that showed hundreds of planes headed toward the World Trade Center, to highlight just how much more important their work is than fighting terrorism. Franny Armstrong of Age of Stupid, which was promoted by the WWF, ran a 10:10 campaign in the UK, whose ads featured environmentalists murdering dissenters, including a group of schoolchildren. The ads are just ads, but London's leftist former mayor, Ken Livingstone had said of Age of Stupid, "Every single person in the country should be forcibly sat down on a chair and made to watch this film."

    nazi_environmentalists

That is the dark side of environmentalism. The most active non-Muslim domestic terrorist group is environmental. The undercurrent of violence finds easy purchase in environmentalism's creed that the only real problem with the world is people. No amount of turning off the lights is enough. Eventually you come around to having to turn off the people.

The Nazis were among the most enthusiastic environmentalists of their day, even the term 'Ecology' was coined by Ernst Haeckel, whose racial views served as precursors to Nazi eugenics. But while Nazi environmentalist believed that we were all animals, they insisted that some animals were better than others. Modern environmentalists believe that we are all worse than animals. In their view we are both natural and unnatural. Natural because we come from the ape and unnatural because we are intelligent. We live on the planet, but our intelligence excludes us from ever belonging to it.
[Related Article: Lies Of the Environmental Elite]

The incompatibility of productive man with the natural world is a fundamental tenet of the environmental movement. Everything we do is destructive, because of what we are. We are tool builders, inventors and producers. And the environmentalist movement is aimed at convincing us to stop being these things. To turn off the lights, make do with less and march back to the caves with a few clever ad campaigns and a catchy tune.

    kill_yourself

Zero Population campaigns and calls for mandatory one-child families are the eugenics of environmentalism. The old eugenicists were concerned with improving the human breed by promoting the reproduction of some, and preventing the reproduction of others. Environmental eugenics treats all of mankind as an inferior race. We all must die.

Not only mankind must go, but all the animals that man has domesticated and bred-- cows, dogs and cats. That is why PETA kills thousands of dogs and cats a year, promotes the euthanasia of wild cats and pet spaying and its staffers have even been known to kidnap animals and then kill them. It is why the Global Warming crowd has made cow emissions into their whipping bovine.

It's not enough to kill man, tear down his cities and put out his lights. His cats and dogs and his cows and sheep must also die.

Environmentalism is not motivated by a love for all creatures, but by preference for a pre-human world of natural wilderness uncultivated by man. The political leftist romanticizes the noble savage over the civilized man and its environmentalist arm romanticizes the jungle over the thousand acre farm. It prefers the the swamp to the garden, the wolf to the dog, and the tiger to the house cat.

This preference is not scientific, it is emotional, rooted in an antipathy to industrialization and human development. It wraps itself in the cloak of science, but it is a reactionary longing for a romanticized past that never existed.

In the environmental bible-- man is the source of all evil. The transition from the nomadic to the domestic, the village to the city, and the craftsman to the factory, is its version of original sin.

The environmentalist began with a distaste for human civilization and the fetishization of the rural farm life of the peasant. The champions of this "naturalism" were invariably urban artists and writers from the upper classes who were enthusiastic about being in touch with nature. After them came the "Nature Fakers" crafting myths about the high moral standards of wild animals. Domestic animals in such stories were always wicked and dumb, while wild animals lived deep and spiritual lives out in the woods. And so the animal kingdom was subdivided into the noble savage and the uncle tom.

The world was divided into two polar opposites, the green and the gray, in an apocalyptic struggle. Either man would drown the world in industry, or he would return to a natural way of life through a lethal virus (Mary Shelley, The Last Man, 1826), a devastating war (H.G. Wells), oppressive social policies (Edward Bellamy) or eco-terrorism (The Monkey Wrench Gang). The more civilization grew, the more apocalyptic the scenarios became culminating in the two great environmental myths; nuclear winter and global warming. These apocalyptic myths have served the same purpose for environmentalists as apocalypses do for all religions. They predict a time when the sinful order is overturned and the earth is renewed to make way for the faithful.

Man is the environmentalist's devil. He must be beaten, broken and subjugated. Even the animals he has bred, who are the spark of his genius, must be taken out and killed. Take away his food and his power. Blame him for the natural cycles of the planet and the inevitable extinction of species that goes on whether he is there or not. Take away his technology and his inventions. Tell him that the humblest bacteria is better than him, for it is dumb and follows its natural instincts, while he insists on using his mind. Take away his primacy and his learning. And then leave him in the dark.

    light_the_darkness

The environmental movement is tenacious, fanatical and deceptive. Its creed is the undoing of all human progress. There is money to be made from that, as there is in all revolutions, but beneath the inconveniences of living under an environmental regime, from dirty clothes to high taxes, while being forced to listen to the hypocrisies and false pieties of the Al Gorean clergy of environmentalist activists heating their mansions while the poor freeze in energy poverty, is the darker reality that environmentalism is an anti-human movement with a vicious hostility toward man and the civilization he has built. Whatever he has built, it must destroy.

The gap between darkness and light is a profound symbol in every civilization. The light of knowledge pitted against the shadowy dark of ignorance. The light reveals, but the darkness hides.

Civilization and the moral code exist in the light of awareness, but the darkness is home to unthinking bestial things. To call for a return to the darkness is a profound act of symbolism. A civilization that celebrates a return to the darkness for even a single hour is longing for a return to a deeper state of darkness.
    A darkness of the soul.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib…: Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. From the sole of the foot even unto the head [there is] no soundness in it; [but] wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment, (Isaiah 1:2 – 4, 6)

The Lord has spoken even to us living in the United States of America and He expects us to pay attention to His warnings. But do we? Not so you’d notice. What a privilege to have been born in America and brought up in a nation of freedom and liberty. Now as America stands at the precipice of time all we can see is corruption, deceit, hatred, putrefying sores, unsoundness of mind. We are in a state of total rebellion against out Creator.

And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;” (Isaiah 1:15, 16)

God is pleading with His people to turn away from all evil. Here in America and around the world His people’s hands are soiled. Even so He’s beseeching us to return to Him and become clean once again.

What a wonderful place to live, this country of ours, and yet we have become the corruptor of nations. We are so greedy that other nations have become just like us, mirroring our greed. There does seem to be an approaching end to our silver and gold which have certainly been our idols for years now.
Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither [is there any] end of their treasures;… Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:” (Isaiah 2:7, 8)

Billions spent to bailout greedy banking institutions bears witness to the systematic elimination of our silver and gold.

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day,” (Isaiah 2:11)

There’s a day coming, not too far into the future, which will bring men to their knees. Our God – the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – will, very soon I’m afraid, put a stop to the pervasive evil that has permeated the earth. How can man stand against God? What man has ever prevailed against God? Rebellion in our very young children at times is cute and at other times quite annoying and brings about the possibility of some sort of punishment. Rebellion against God is never cute, and there’s no question God will bring His punishment to bear.

Isaiah was a prophet enlisted by God Himself to herald God’s displeasure and remedies to the nation of Israel. We here in America can certainly take stock in the fact that if God’s displeasure with Israel brought devastating consequences to His chosen people, we Americans can rest assured God’s wrath will come down on this rebellious gentile nation as well.

The financial situation in our land is only a part of the overall problem confronting each individual in America today. Once again God is desperately attempting to get our attention. His word (the Holy Bible) gives all indication that He is serious when He chastises His people. Our Banks are failing in droves and huge conglomerates are taking unheard of massive financial hits, the stock market reflecting a sense of insecurity in our nation today is only a fraction of what we can expect if we continue in our rebellion to our God.

    economic-crisis

We must look at the whole picture before our eyes. We are all aware of the crises confronting us as Americans, and we can all understand why this has happened if we just give it a little thought. As a nation, we are steeped in immorality, deception, greed, hatred, and in false religions that don’t glorify the one true God, the God who created Heaven and Earth, the God who gave us His word to live by.

Rebellion is spreading. When did this rebellion start? It started in The Garden of Eden with two young adults who were given everything, even the title deed to the earth. What else could they have wanted? They already owned it all. It’s the same today, there are incredibly wealthy people who are unsatisfied with what God has blessed them with, and they want more. When they achieve more they still aren’t content and strive for even more.

According to history, people won’t be satisfied even after they obtain it all. Solomon who was the wealthiest man who ever lived penned the following statement. “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all [is] vanity.(Ecclesiastes 1:2) After it was all said and done Solomon wrote this admonition, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man." (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

Satisfaction is only guaranteed when God’s people seek Him.
[Seek him] that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD [is] his name:” (Amos 5:8)
As God’s people we should seek Him in our daily lives. No matter what else happens in life, we must resolve to seek God’s presence and his will, and this resolve should never be compromised.

There is a sense of urgency among commentators today, we can read scores of articles on the subject of financial ruin and end times scenarios, and no one can find the United States of America in the end time prophecies. Just take a look around at all the confusion in this country; certainly we must come to the conclusion that we aren’t mentioned because we are no longer a viable entity. There really is no simple answer to where the US will be during the end times and the 70th week of Daniel. After so many years at the top of the heap will America become subordinated to a lesser position, perhaps a position of say a third world nation? It didn’t seem possible a few years ago but it sure makes for interesting conversation now.

If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” But if ye turn away, and forsake My statutes and My commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; And this house, …which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house? And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers… therefore hath He brought all this evil upon them,”
    (2 Chronicles 7:14, 19, 21, 22)

Jesus Christ is our God, and Christians who are called by His name must humble themselves and pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways.

Personally, my thoughts are that since God established this nation a moral nation with Christian values, He has every right to disestablish it. I believe we are currently living through God’s disestablishment of America. If we would turn from our evil ways He would heal our land. How can we, the body of Christ, convince over three hundred million people that they need to turn from their wicked ways?

I’ve heard figures of approximately one third to one half of the US are Christian. If that be the case, and if we each took on the responsibility of speaking to two or three non-believers, we should have this problem fixed in short order. On the other hand, when we confront those who say they are Christian but then follow up with the statement “ But I’m not a practicing Christian”, then I see the figure of one third to one half of all Americans proclaiming to be Christian, dramatically reduced. By the way, what is someone who says “I’m not a practicing Christian”? If we are truly born again, are we not practicing Christians?
[Related Article: A Call To Repentance]

I know full well as do many who will be reading this commentary, that this nation isn’t going to get down on their knees and begin to ask God for forgiveness any time soon. Interestingly it won’t take the whole nation. If we His people, that means those of us who are truly born again, born from above, will repent and turn from our wicked ways He will heal our land. God isn’t calling on the whole of the U.S., he’s singling out His people, those who bear His Name. This is a corporate prayer He’s asking for. All believers should examine themselves and willingly seek God’s face and repent of the rebellion that has taken over this land.

The current Wall Street crisis is a call to arms. God is calling on all believers to put on His armor as in Ephesians 6, and to intercede and pray for this nation, to get down on their knees and repent before Him. If we will do this as a body, the body of Christ, He will be faithful to forgive us and to heal our land. If we stubbornly refuse to do this simple task, well then, God knows what the future will hold for America and its stiff necked people.

    THE EPIC MELTDOWN OF THE
    GUN-GRABBERS

    liberal-losers

COLORADO SPRINGS — Quick, call the CDC. We’ve got a Rocky Mountain outbreak of Acute Sore Loser Fever. After failing to stave off two historic recall bids on Tuesday, two delusional state legislators and their national party bosses just can’t help but double-down and trash voters as dumb, sick, criminal and profligate.

The ululations of gun-grabbing Democrats here in my adopted home state are reverberating far and wide. Appearing on cable TV Thursday to answer the question “What happened?” Pueblo State Sen. Angela Giron sputtered that she lost her seat due to “voter suppression.” Giron whined to CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin that voters “weren’t able to get to the polls” and that there was “voter confusion.”

“Voter confusion”? My goodness. You’d think there were no public libraries, local television stations, talk radio, newspapers, blogs, Facebook, Twitter or government websites to get information about the elections. (Oh, and pay no attention to the massive 6-to-1 spending advantage that Giron and her fellow recall target John Morse, formerly the president of the state Senate, enjoyed.)

“Voter suppression”? Dios mio! You’d think there were New Black Panther Party thugs standing outside the polls shouting racist epithets and waving police batons!

But no, there was no “voter confusion” or “voter suppression.” In fact, as the Colorado Peak Politics blog pointed out, the “majority of turnout in (Giron’s) district was Democrat, by a large margin. And she still lost. Voter suppression (is) not even believable.”

Giron lost in her Obama-loving Democratic Senate District 3 by a whopping 12 points. The only significant complaint about voter suppression came after the polls closed — and not from anyone in the district, but from out-of-state Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wah-wah-wah-sserman Schultz of Florida. The majority of constituents who signed the recall petitions against her were, um, Democrats. Would Giron care to argue that voters from the same party that put her in office are too dumb and confused to comprehend her state’s own Constitution and election process?

Giron was defeated not by elite Republicans and nefarious NRA bigwigs, but by a former Clinton supporter/police chief/campaign neophyte and a couple of upstart citizen activists who make a living as plumbers.

Grassroots organizers in both Pueblo and El Paso counties with little to no previous electoral experience researched the state constitution’s recall provisions and put in the hard nose-to-the-ground work of gathering thousands of petition signatures in a brief period. They did their homework, adhered to the law and made their voices heard. As I’ve reported in my column over the past several months, it was a David vs. gun-grabbing Goliath battle from the start.

Only after the local citizens got the ball rolling — catching flack from establishment GOP types who initially opposed the disruptive process — did national organizations weigh in with help. And the campaign cash they provided was still no match for nosybody Bloomberg, Vice President Joe Biden (who personally lobbied state Democratic legislators) and their gun control-freak company.

The significance of this unprecedented battle cannot be overstated. Self-government won. Demagoguery lost. All the Bloomberg bucks in the world couldn’t buy immunity for his water-carriers in Colorado. The role of Second Amendment-supporting, limited-government-advocating local women in pushing back against false smears was invaluable. The “reproductive rights” fear-mongering failed. And the use of social media to organize echoed other successful tea party efforts.

The problem for the gun-grabbers wasn’t that the voters were uninformed. It was that they were too informed. Voters paid close attention when state Democrats rigged the game during the legislative debate over extreme gun and ammo restrictions that will do nothing to stop the next Aurora, Columbine or Newtown. They watched fellow citizens being blocked from testifying, pushed aside for out-of-staters. They heard Morse accuse gun owners of having a “sickness in their souls.” They heard him brag to liberal zealots that he was ignoring their “vile” e-mail.

They rejected Giron’s sneering at grassroots organizers as “special interests.” They didn’t buy that their birth control would disappear. They weren’t swayed by shooting victim Rep. Gabby Gifford’s husband’s emotional appeals or distracted by Bill Clinton’s last-minute robocalls.

“What happened?” The reasons these petty tyrants lost are as simple as ABC: arrogance, bitterness and contempt for the people. As more and more self-empowered citizens are learning, you can’t fix this stupid hubris. But you can vote it out.

Much has been written from a Christian standpoint addressing the state of morality in America today. Great evil abounds and this is only going to get much worse. Some Christians seem to have the attitude that “Jesus will come get us so we will just go about business as usual.” That is exactly what Jesus Christ told us would happen when several of His disciples asked about signs of His coming at the end of the world [Related Article: The Spirit Of This Age]

We find the following statement in Matthew 24, from The Olivet Discourse:

Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet...All these are the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24: 4-7, 8).

But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” (Matthew 24:37)

Jesus markedly said that when we see wars and rumors of wars that we should not be troubled for this is the beginning of sorrows. Then, in a later passage of Scripture, He says that as it was in the days of Noah, so it will also be in the days of His coming. Much can be said about these passages of Scripture but the point that must be made is that these things that we have been observing for some time now are just the beginning.

Jesus Christ later likens the process as birth pangs. If anyone reading this has ever given birth, then one knows exactly what He was illustrating. These pangs start and are mostly tolerable. But, as time goes by, they get more intense and more frequent. Finally, they are constant and seem unbearable. The end of this severe pain and distress is the delivery of a new life. This pain brings joy. This is exactly what we are experiencing our world today. How long until the evil ends and joy comes?

In the days of Noah, before the flood, He tells us that people were eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, etc. Basically, this describes a society that is going about “business as usual.” This is how most Christians seem today. We have become so desensitized to events happening in rapid succession, that we don't take note of the frequency of earthquakes that occur daily in various places in the world.

We see the situation in the Middle East heating up and as Christians we should be greatly concerned. We should take note of the strange weather patterns, the active volcanoes, for all these point to the end. And, the tables have been turned on us as now we are labeled as “enemies of the state,” “intolerant,” “haters,” because when a Christian has the courage to stand up to the social issues that have been forced down our throats that are wrong; they are accused of being a hater or intolerant. [Related Article: They Call Us "Haters"]

Even in certain churches today immorality is tolerated. It seems even that it is invited. Such an example of this is welcoming homosexuality and those who practice it. After all, God loves homosexuals, doesn't He? Homosexuality is a sin and God does not love it.

The many sins being tolerated are swept under the pews. We are children of the Most High God! These are unnatural and they are something God hates. And, Believers should NEVER tolerate the intolerant. Recently, in a church located in the city where this writer resides, a speaker was invited to come speak to the congregation. This man, a current candidate for president of the nation of Malawi in Africa, is a mighty, courageous, anointed man of God who has had at least ten attempts on his life. The Islamic faction that currently rules that nation has tried to kill him, and has offered him great wealth if he will step down, but he will not.

He walks in the will of God. He understands that as an outspoken Christian, he could well lose his life. But, he refuses to back down and he stands. He stands on the foundation of the Word of God. Just several weeks ago, an attempt was made to kidnap his son. Two weeks ago, an attempt was made on the life of his wife. This man, James Nyundo, can never lay his head down in the same place more than one night because it is not safe. And, he never knows where he will be. He has to trust in God for his very life. So, one can see how he would be an exciting speaker for any group of Christians to have the opportunity to hear.

Nyundo has seen things Christians in the Western world never see or experience, his campaign is being assisted by Christians and Christian churches in his nation. The pastors of these churches and the Christians assisting him willingly do so at the risk of losing their lives. He knows that the only source of freedom comes from God. He knows that God can and will bless his nation but in order to affect change, he must defeat the Muslim opponent.

During his time speaking at the particular church, a “mainline denominational church,” he spoke about integrity and living a righteous life. He recently wrote a book titled, Absolute Integrity. He doesn't just talk the talk, he walks the walk, and the glow and peace on this man's face says all that needs to be said about His relationship with God. He began to speak about how God hates homosexuality and how God ordained marriage between a man and a woman. He pointed out that any nation that tolerates, promotes or allows homosexuality will be destroyed by God.

At that particular point, approximately one-half of the large congregation stood and clapped. The other half was absolutely upset! Mr. Nyundo was confused because these were supposedly Christians to whom he was addressing. After the service, the associate pastor, a woman, approached him and attacked him verbally. She was hateful and told him that he was wrong and that he “probably just got the pastor fired.” Nyundo was upset. What did he say? Why were they mad? This was America, a “Christian” nation! Why would they not want to hear the truth?

The congregation members who were angry were “liberal” Christians who believe that homosexuality is not a sin! Yes, Nyundo said exactly what these people needed to hear, and God sent him to tell them that. But this is the kind of thing that is happening in our churches today. It is just as it was in the days of Noah. Who wants to hear the Word of God? Who will tolerate it? It is so much more pleasant to hear a nice sermon about how to be a good parent. Who wants to hear that sin is bad?

This example is not unusual and it emphasizes how very disconnected most Christians in America are from the rest of Christendom around the world. People like Nyundo have endured severe hardship and have seen fellow Christians persecuted and even murdered for their faith. They don't sit in comfortable pews and rationalize that God's Word isn't relevant today. No, they can't get enough of it and they love to hear ALL of it. And, despite the teachings of many churches today that there is no such thing as demonic possession or that “gifts” of the Holy Spirit are no more, or that there are no miracles today; these people in tiny nations and in third-world nations have seen and have experienced first-hand these very things.

But, for Nyundo, it was never his expectation to experience what he called being confronted by a “demonic presence” in the person who verbally abused him. And, it stunned him that this happened in America. America - the very nation that had been greatly blessed by God Himself, for putting Him first in all things. But, that is the past.

What are we doing, brethren? We have become pathetically politically correct. We have rejected God's Word. Dictionary dot com. defines “politically-correct” in the following manner:

“Marked by or adhering to a progressive orthodoxy on issues especially involving gender, race, sexual affinity or ecology.”

The dictionary site notes that it is language of the progressive left. Unless we have a worldview compatible with the godless philosophy that sees man as essentially helpless and misguided, in need of a ruling class to take care of them " we have no business falling into the trap of permitting the progressive left to control the terms of almost every conversation.
    [Related Article: Deconstructing Liberal Tolerance]

We use their terms, which are never favorable toward the true conditions in our land. We permit them to use the term pro-choice, when they only choice they believe in is the choice to end the life of an unborn infant. They don’t believe we should have choices about the food we eat, our environment, even our light bulbs. It’s time to put an end our acceptance of their terminology, which is designed to sound good, and conceal their anti-life, anti-freedom agenda. [Related Article: The Psychopathology Of the Liberal Mind]

What happens when we stand up to the politically correct masters? What happens when we utter such things as we find in the Bible like the sinfulness of homosexuality, or that Jesus is the only way to heaven? The ruling class immediately goes into personal destruction mode. They roll out their closed minded, racist, hater rhetoric. There are some thoughts and ideas that they believe dare not be expressed, lest the lies of the ruling class be exposed.

    don't_speak

If we really believe they are lies, they need to be exposed. They tell us there is no God, or if there is, he is the god of the liberation theologian interested in creating a socialist paradise on earth. They tell us that restricting marriage to a man and a woman is discriminatory and we need to be open to other types of relationships. They tell us that the welfare of children is the responsibility of the state more than the parents.

We are told that everyone has their own truth, that what is true for one may not be true for another. We are told that the truth of the Bible is fine for us if we choose to make it so, but others may come up with their own truth. We are just being closed minded and old fashioned if we believe everyone should be working with the same truth.
[Related Article: Is One Way the Only Way?]

At this point the relativists are ahead in the public sphere of ideas, primarily because too many people, too many churches, too many pastors have been intimidated into either complete silence or they have changed their message to make it acceptable to the ruling class.

There is a price to pay when we stand up for the truth. George Orwell told us, “Truth is treason in the empire of lies.” It is treasonous to the homosexual rights advocate to say that the Bible condemns their practice. They tell us that they were born that way. God Almighty, the God of Abraham, Jacob and Israel, does not make such mistakes, nor does He put a man in a woman’s body by accident. Our society has arrived at the point where so many accept the arrogance of those who say their work is to “fix” God’s mistakes.

With so many dysfunctional families, is it really a mystery how we end up with so many messed up children who become messed up adults that have no idea who they are? Christians! Arise! This is a spiritual war and we are losing the battle. Take up your sword (The Word of God) and speak the truth. Tolerate no more pithy sermonettes from your pulpits. Demand that your pastor preach the entire Word of God or show him the door. [Related Article: And the Pulpits Are Silent]

What we see happening in our churches today is parallel to what happened in Jesus' ministry. He was questioned by the religious “authorities” of Judaism.

They had added their own “interpretations” and “extra-rituals” to His commandments and couldn't bear the fact that He stood in defiance to them. He defied and taught against the traditions of Judaism. These were men who put tradition above God's Word. The same thing is taking place in the church today.

The Pharisees asked Jesus why His disciples did not observe the traditions of Judaism. Notice Jesus' reply: He answered and said to them, 'Full well ye reject the commandment of God [disobey], that ye may keep your own tradition (Mark 7:9).

Jesus said, Well hath Esaias [Isaiah] prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, this people honore me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men (Mark 7:6).

Jesus revered and followed God's Word, His commandments. Jesus told us that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. This is not an “optional” thing for a Christian. Yet, today because we have been taught that Christians don't obey God's commandments, we seem to have made our own religion. If Jesus Christ and His disciples and the early church followed these teachings to the letter, then why are we exempt?

And, can we now see how failing to do so has been exploited by the enemy to bring this politically-correctness into the church? This has also allowed the great apostasy and ignorance of the deeper things of God. The church is the one place this should never be! The gates of hell are not supposed to prevail against the church but the gates of hell have flung wide-open the doors of the church. And the reaction? Silence.

    blind_christians

Jesus and his disciples followed the commandments of keeping God's Feasts (His appointed times). In almost every account we read of Jesus being in Jerusalem, it was for one of those feasts in which going to Jerusalem was required. Yet, we are taught that we are exempt from God's feasts; the very ones that God Himself said, “These are My feasts to be observed forever” (Leviticus 23:41).

Had Jesus failed to keep these holy convocations (meetings or gatherings mandated by God Himself to be observed forever), he would have committed sin. Jesus had to be sinless. If it was “optional” then why did He diligently do so? Why? Because it wasn't optional for the Son of God and it isn't optional for us as Christians. But “man” has said otherwise. Do we serve God or do we serve men? We cannot do both.

When people reject the Word of God and devise their own religious traditions, they automatically bring spiritual blindness upon themselves.

    Isaiah said:

Stay yourselves, and wonder, cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers he hath covered. And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot for it is sealed.
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned. Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of man.
Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid
    ”.
    (Isaiah 29: 9-14)

Is what Isaiah described in the passage of Scripture above not a perfect description of the entire world today in religion, science, government, education and economics? Again, what a paradox: They use the Bible and profess to believe in God, but cannot understand the Scriptures. Other prophecies about the end-times confirm that God's people would understand the Word of God and prophecy, while the wicked, the majority of people in the world would not understand.

Truth must be told, but it must be done in love as a parent correcting a child. This writer is not condemning those in error. Not only have Christians today become tolerant of the intolerant allowing great apostasy to reign; we have forsaken the duty of lifting one another up. We should not attack our brethren, what does this accomplish? What good could come of it?

But, while we tolerate sin, great abominations; we are intolerant of our own brothers and sisters in Christ when they speak the Word of God - the Truth. To be silent and allow this apostasy in our churches, to allow this tolerance for sin (i.e., homosexuality, adultery, idolatry, etc.) is the real act of condemnation to the catastrophic results that await those who are silent, therefore complicit in these sins.

May we all plead for forgiveness, not only from our God, but those who have been led astray by our silence. If the truth shall set us free… why are we feeling the weight of chains growing heavier with each passing day?

  • Believing the False Prophets

Making God’s People Trust A Lie

    Author: Pastor Bill Randles
Source: Believers in Grace Ministries - 04.09.2008

It is happening all over again. In the church, as in the last days of Judah, immediately preceding the devastation of the Babylonian captivity and the destruction of the temple, Christians are being inoculated against conviction and preparedness by the soothing Words of false prophets like Hananiah.

    1timothy_4_1-2

By prophets, in this paper, I refer to the broad meaning of the term, and not the narrow. Anyone who stands in a pulpit or in the name of God speaks as a messenger of God is a prophet in a sense. Pastors and teachers in the Christian church have a responsibility to speak for God to this dying culture. There is a sense in which all Christians are prophets. After all, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel and the other Biblical prophets didn’t go about giving ‘words’ to individuals, and slaying them in the Spirit. Read their messages, they were preachers, who called the people back to the God who had saved them and made covenant with them! In that sense every pastor or teacher in the Christian church should see themselves as an Isaiah or Jeremiah. [Related Article: And the Pulpits Are Silent]

Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah, the Prophet, Hear now Hananiah; The Lord hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.(Jeremiah 28:15)

Of course it is no wonder that Hananiah was better received. Hananiah’s “word’ was uplifting, and encouraging. To a people already partially humiliated by a deportation of their own nobility and a stripping of the vessels of their holy temple- Hananaih a priest proclaimed in God’s name that “I have broken the yoke of the King of Babylon. Within two full years will I bring again into this place all of the vessels of the Lord’s House…”(Jeremiah 28:2-3). Such confidence!

Part of the problem with Hananiah’s message is that there is no consideration of the fact that it was sin and backsliding that caused that humiliation, (which he so boldly prophesied a reversal of). There was no mention of repentance, no vindication of God’s charges against the people, no connection between the people’s suffering and the wrath of the God of the covenant. He merely prophesied peace and restoration and victory. He preached a God of Love, but love only. [Related Article: Deception In the Church]

Contrast that encouraging Word with the one given to the ‘weeping prophet’, Jeremiah, that Judah would go into captivity for seventy years (Jeremiah 29:10), and that Nebuchadnezzar, a pagan king was God’s servant (Jeremiah 25:9) and adding insult to injury - that the best recourse was to see in the Babylonian invasion and captivity the good hand of God and to humbly submit to it. Does that sound like faith and confidence? Where is the patriotism in that?

Jeremiah too preached a God of Love, but as all true prophets do, he correctly showed forth the Love of God in its true context, which is the Holiness of God. Indeed, God is Love and God is Holy. His love is Holy love. God is Sovereign. There would be a restoration, but on God’s terms and by God’s own means. The problem Jeremiah’s contemporaries had with his preaching was that it wasn’t man centered.
    [Related Article: A Social Gospel?]

Contrast also the differences in the position Jeremiah and Hananiah held in Judean society. Hananiah was a priest, and highly regarded. He had a following. Jeremiah was expelled from the temple- his preaching was ridiculed, and disregarded, for the most part. His message was of God's Judgment and coming wrath. It seemed defeatist and unpatriotic, and furthermore, Jeremiah himself seemed emotionally unstable and near having a nervous breakdown! (Jeremiah 9:1-2)
[Related Article: Crossing Paths with God]

The same choices are being presented to God’s people today. The Evangelical church can be likened unto Judah in Jeremiah’s day. They are the remnant of God’s people, the witness to a perishing world, the pillar and ground of the Truth. And for them there are Jeremiah’s indeed, calling God’s people to true godliness, making them ready for the coming judgments, taking their eyes off of this temporal life and fitting them for eternity. Insisting on adherence to the word of the covenant. Because we live in such a potent, toxic culture, we need strong, God centered preaching.

But for every Jeremiah there are a hundred Hananiah’s. They run interference, deflecting conviction, soothing a backslidden people, “…hearken not unto the words of the prophets unto you; they make you vain; they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord. They say still unto them that despise me, the Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say everyone that walketh after the imagination of their own heart, No evil shall come upon you…(Jeremiah 23:16-17) At a time when people should be taught to fear the Lord, and turn to Him, the effect of false prophets is the opposite!
[Related Articles: They Claim To Speak for God-Part One and Part Two]

This issue is of serious consequence. At stake is the readiness of the church for ‘perilous times’. The effect of false prophets in Jeremiah’s day was to strengthen the people against repentance, rendering them liable to the judgment of God. As Jeremiah predicted that the people would one day lament- “the Harvest is past, the summer is ended and we are not saved”. (Jeremiah 8:20)

Just what are the lies that God’s people are being asked to trust in by the new Hananiah’s?

    Here are three huge ones:

    1. You don’t have to take God seriously.

I believe that there are literally many people preaching in pulpits and sitting in Christian pews who ‘despise God’. The new preaching is casual, informal, almost ‘anti-reverent’, as if reverence for God is ‘religious’, stuffy and unspiritual. A ‘youth minister’ at a Christian college chapel service I attended, actually prayed in the “kick butt’ name of Jesus! Such irreverence is seen as being “non-religious”, “relevant’ and is no doubt seen as ‘being real’ [Related Article: A Shocking Message for Christian Youth!]
God’s attributes and perfections are not generally being proclaimed by ministers. As Hosea cried out - “there is no truth, mercy, no knowledge of God” . (Hosea 4:1) [Related Article: Wake Up!]

    proverbs-9-10

    2. The lie of a ‘nonjudgmental’ God.

The idea of a God of Holy Wrath, of vindictive judgment, is being denied these days, if not openly, than by non emphasis. Church growth ‘experts’ have cautioned against the ‘courtroom model’of evangelism in favor of a more ‘relational’ style. Hell and the lake of fire themselves are being denied in evangelical circles these days as pastors and congregations seek to make unchurched ‘seekers’ feel comfortable in their congregations. Real grace, the true Love of God as revealed by the gospel, presupposes wrath and Judgment. It is from “the wrath of God” which is being “revealed from heaven against all unrighteousness and ungodliness of men”, that we are saved from. Jesus died to answer to the claims of a Righteous and Holy God against us. Wherever this doctrine is de-emphasized, there is a Hananiah at work.
[Related Article: The Seeker-Friendly Way of Doing Church]

    3. Humanistic lies, including the denial of sin and the denial of man's sinful nature.

This is the Lie that people aren’t really so bad. Read Jeremiah sometime and contrast His urgency and grief with his the complacency of his hearers. They didn’t really believe that they were in such danger, they “trusted in a lie”, “the Temple of the Lord, The Temple of the Lord!” they would say-they took refuge in mere clichés. The false prophets bolstered them in this vain confidence.

    baby-christian-food

It seems to be happening again, The false prophets are once again ‘making God’s people trust in a lie’, the people are not blameless, for once again as in Jeremiah’s day, "The prophets prophesy falsely, the priests bear rule by their means, and my people love to have it so, people love to have it so, but what will you do in the end?(Jeremiah 5:31)

How well do you believe the following verse?

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified(Galatians 2:16).

This is something quoted often inside Christianity, but is not always believed. The gospel at the core is not designed to be something easy to follow, but rather to be hard for a mind to accept. It is hard to understand math, and will not be accepted by most people including those who sit in church buildings. To show an example of how challenging this gospel math is, consider the following true tales of sad souls.
[Related Article: Concerns for Company and Coworkers]

Most people know the name of Jeffrey Dahmer who strangled and dismembered seventeen boys and men and cannibalized some of them. The world was shocked at the dark tale of what this man did, a true symbol of how evil a man could be. He was reported to pick up these men from gay bars, torture them, and commit unthinkable acts. Most people were ready to see this man burned alive for his crime, yet there was another that took another approach.

Pastor Roy Ratcliffe began meeting with Dahmer for a number of years, going though Scripture with him, and explaining the gospel. According to Jeffrey Dahmer’s confession, he trusted in Jesus alone for the forgiveness of sin. Sometime later, after being attacked in jail, Dahmer wrote, “I don’t know if you heard, but last Sunday I was attacked while in the chapel. Some guy tried to cut my throat open with a razor but didn’t succeed. The razor broke, and my neck was only slightly scratched. I believe that it was only the protective grace of our Great Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that saved me from serious injury or death!”

Pastor Ratcliffe did suffer backlash from his desire to share the gospel with Dahmer. Several members reportedly left his church. Some cited that God would never let a monster like that into heaven. This reaction is based on the false beliefs that God requires you to have a measure of your own goodness to enter into heaven, and they were less of a sinner than Dahmer, so therefore he was less worthy of the gospel than they were.

    the-foursquare-gospel

There is another soul to examine, one much kinder.

Let us look at Teresa of Calcutta, M.C., commonly known as Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. They run hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; children’s and family counseling programs; orphanages and schools. Members of the order must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, and the fourth vow, to give “Wholehearted and free service to the poorest of the poor.” (Wikipedia)

Her works are well known, helping countless numbers of people. She was a strong valued person, pro-life, outspoken on issues of life and the value of children. There is something of note in her belief system. In her book, Life in the Spirit: Reflections, Meditations, and Prayers, she says on pages 81 and 82:

We never try to convert those who receive (aid) to Christianity but in our work we bear witness to the love of God’s presence and if Catholics, Protestants, Buddhists or agnostics become for this better men - simply better - we will be satisfied. It matters to the individual what church he belongs to. If that individual thinks and believes that this is the only way to God for her or him, this is the way God comes into their life - his life. If he does not know any other way and if he has no doubt so that he does not need to search then this is his way to salvation.

Mother Teresa continues to directly contradict the Bible and New Testament teachings concerning genuine salvation in another article:

Of course I convert. I convert you to be a better Hindu or a better Muslim or a better Protestant. Once you’ve found God, it’s up to you to decide how to worship him.” (“Mother Teresa Touched Other Faiths,” AP, Sept. 7, 1997)

Statements such as these are in conflict with Scripture. Salvation is by faith alone, in Christ alone, and not by works or any other gods. If the gospel is to be believed, we must reach a conclusion that is not going to be easy to accept. If these statements are truly believed about both of the souls, then we must accept the possibility the Jeffrey Dahamer is in heaven, and Mother Teresa is in Hell.
[Related Articles: Nice People Go To Hell and Roman Catholicism vs. Christianity]

Do you see the problem that a natural man will always have with the gospel? Religious men believe their salvation is based on their worth to God, yet the Scriptures remove our value in the salvation process. Salvation is all about the work of God, who died to the sins of all men, so that all who turn and trust in Him alone, in the payment for sin provided.

Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time(1 Timothy 2:4-6).

This is, hard to understand math. The gospel says we have nothing to offer God but our evil desires and our sin, but He offers a free gift if we come to Him. What are you going to accept? Are your works making you better than other sinners, or are you going to see yourself as someone who has nothing but Christ alone?

The primary “witness” that the mainstream media is using as a source in Syria has been caught staging fake news segments. Recent video evidence proves that “Syria Danny”, the supposed activist who has been begging for military intervention on CNN, is really just a paid actor and a liar.

While Assad is definitely a tyrant like any head of state, a US invasion of the country is a worst case scenario for the people living there.

By pointing out that the mainstream media is orchestrating their entire coverage of this incident, we are not denying that there is a tremendous amount of death and violence in Syria right now. However, we are showing that the mainstream media version of events is scripted and staged propaganda.

Some of the most hyped up news images of our time surrounding war were not actually real but were simply public relations stunts, designed as psychological warfare operations.

No one in America can forget the image of Saddam Hussein’s statue being toppled and covered with an American flag, yet few people realize that this was a hoax, a staged psychological operation coordinated between the military and the media. In July of 2004 journalist Jon Elmer exposed an internal army study of the war showing that this whole statue scenario was indeed a set up.

In the article Elmer writes, “the infamous toppling of the statue of Saddam Hussein in Firdos Square in central Baghdad on April 9, 2003 was stage-managed by American troops and not a spontaneous reaction by Iraqis. According to the study, a Marine colonel first decided to topple the statue, and an Army psychological operations unit turned the event into a propaganda moment… The Marines brought in cheering Iraqi children in order to make the scene appear authentic, the study said. Allegations that the event was staged were made in April of last year, mostly by opponents of the war, but were ignored or ridiculed by the US government and most visible media outlets. “[1]
[Related Article: The Sovietized American Media]

The statue hoax was just one example in a long list of lies and psychological operations surrounding the multiple wars in Iraq. At the onset of Operation Desert Storm in 1990 a public relations firm by the name of Hill and Knowlton spent millions of dollars on the government’s behalf, constructing news pieces that would sell the war to the American public. One of the most moving pranks to come from this push to war was the testimony of a 15-year-old Kuwaiti girl, known only by her first name of Nayirah. In a videotaped testimony that was later distributed to the media she said “I volunteered at the al-Addan hospital, While I was there, I saw the Iraqi soldiers come into the hospital with guns, and go into the room where . . . babies were in incubators. They took the babies out of the incubators, took the incubators, and left the babies on the cold floor to die.”

Sounds horrible huh? Well, luckily it never happened, this too was a fabricated event designed to dehumanize the Iraqi people. The whole thing was exposed when the journalists discovered that the witness Nayirah was actually the daughter of a US ambassador who was being coaxed by military psychological operations specialists. If the government and media cooperate to deceive the American public during times of war then there should be no doubt in your mind that the same techniques are used during times of peace, and especially elections.

Militants tell AP reporter they mishandled Saudi-supplied chemical weapons, causing accident...

    syrian-rebels

Syrian rebels in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta have admitted to Associated Press correspondent Dale Gavlak that they were responsible for last week’s chemical weapons incident which western powers have blamed on Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, revealing that the casualties were the result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them by Saudi Arabia.

“From numerous interviews with doctors, Ghouta residents, rebel fighters and their families….many believe that certain rebels received chemical weapons via the Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, and were responsible for carrying out the (deadly) gas attack,” writes Gavlak. (back up version here).

Rebels told Gavlak that they were not properly trained on how to handle the chemical weapons or even told what they were. It appears as though the weapons were initially supposed to be given to the Al-Qaeda offshoot Jabhat al-Nusra.

“We were very curious about these arms. And unfortunately, some of the fighters handled the weapons improperly and set off the explosions,” one militant named ‘J’ told Gavlak.

His claims are echoed by another female fighter named ‘K’, who told Gavlak, “They didn’t tell us what these arms were or how to use them. We didn’t know they were chemical weapons. We never imagined they were chemical weapons.”

Abu Abdel-Moneim, the father of an opposition rebel, also told Gavlak, “My son came to me two weeks ago asking what I thought the weapons were that he had been asked to carry,” describing them as having a “tube-like structure” while others were like a “huge gas bottle.” The father names the Saudi militant who provided the weapons as Abu Ayesha.

According to Abdel-Moneim, the weapons exploded inside a tunnel, killing 12 rebels.

“More than a dozen rebels interviewed reported that their salaries came from the Saudi government,” writes Gavlak.

If accurate, this story could completely derail the United States’ rush to attack Syria which has been founded on the “undeniable” justification that Assad was behind the chemical weapons attack. Dale Gavlak’s credibility is very impressive. She has been a Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press for two decades and has also worked for National Public Radio (NPR) and written articles for BBC News.

The website on which the story originally appeared - Mint Press - is a legitimate media organization based in Minnesota. The Minnesota Post did a profile on them last year.

Saudi Arabia’s alleged role in providing rebels, whom they have vehemently backed at every turn, with chemical weapons, is no surprise given the revelations earlier this week that the Saudis threatened Russia with terror attacks at next year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi unless they abandoned support for the Syrian President.

“I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us,” Prince Bandar allegedly told Vladimir Putin, the Telegraph reports.

The Obama administration is set to present its intelligence findings today in an effort prove that Assad’s forces were behind last week’s attack, despite American officials admitting to the New York Times that there is no “smoking gun” that directly links President Assad to the attack.

US intelligence officials also told the Associated Press that the intelligence proving Assad’s culpability is “no slam dunk.”

As we reported earlier this week, intercepted intelligence revealed that the Syrian Defense Ministry was making “panicked” phone calls to Syria’s chemical weapons department demanding answers in the hours after the attack, suggesting that it was not ordered by Assad’s forces.

UPDATE: Associated Press contacted us to confirm that Dale Gavlak is an AP correspondent, but that her story was not published under the banner of the Associated Press. We didn’t claim this was the case, we merely pointed to Gavlak’s credentials to stress that she is a credible source, being not only an AP correspondent, but also having written for PBS, BBC and Salon.com.

'Syrian rebels take responsibility for the chemical attack admitting the weapons were provided by Saudis'

    Source: VoiceOfRussia.com - August 30, 2013

    syrian_rebels

In an interview with Dale Gavlak, a Middle East correspondent for the Associated Press and Mint Press News, Syrian rebels tacitly implied that they were responsible for last week’s chemical attack. Some information could not immediately be independently verified.

“From numerous interviews with doctors, Ghouta residents, rebel fighters and their families….many believe that certain rebels received chemical weapons via the Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, and were responsible for carrying out the (deadly) gas attack,” she writes in the article.

The rebels noted it was a result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them.

“My son came to me two weeks ago asking what I thought the weapons were that he had been asked to carry,” said Abu Abdel-Moneim, the father of a rebel fighting to unseat Assad, who lives in Ghouta.

As Gavlak reports, Abdel-Moneim said his son and 12 other rebels died in a weapons storage tunnel. The father stated the weapons were provided to rebel forces by a Saudi militant, known as Abu Ayesha, describing them as having a “tube-like structure” while others were like a “huge gas bottle.”

“They didn’t tell us what these arms were or how to use them,” complained a female fighter named ‘K’. “We didn’t know they were chemical weapons. We never imagined they were chemical weapons.”

“When Saudi Prince Bandar gives such weapons to people, he must give them to those who know how to handle and use them,” she warned. She, like other Syrians, do not want to use their full names for fear of retribution.

Gavlak also refers to an article in the UK’s Daily Telegraph about secret Russian-Saudi talks stating that Prince Bandar threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin with terror attacks at next year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if Russia doesn’t agree to change its stance on Syria.

“Prince Bandar pledged to safeguard Russia’s naval base in Syria if the Assad regime is toppled, but he also hinted at Chechen terrorist attacks on Russia’s Winter Olympics in Sochi if there is no accord,” the article stated.

“I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us,” Saudi Prince allegedly told Vladimir Putin.

MintPressNews.com stated that some of the information couldn’t be independently verified and pledged to continue providing updates on this topic.

  • The Uncertain Future Facing Syrian Christians

    Syria’s Christians Risk Eradication

A post-Assad Islamist regime threatens to re-enact the Armenian genocide.

U.S. policy towards Syria is bafflingly inconsistent. If U.S. leaders are so concerned about regimes slaughtering thousands of their own people, did they notice what just happened in Egypt? If they are so exercised over about weapons of mass destruction, are they aware that Israel has two hundred nuclear warheads, with delivery systems? Will American warships in the region be making those other stops on their liberating mission?

Most puzzling of all, though, is why the United States seems so determined to eradicate Christianity in one of its oldest heartlands, at such an agonizingly sensitive historical moment.

Syria has always been a complex place religiously. Although the country has a substantial Sunni Muslim majority, it also has large minority communities—Christians, Alawites, and others—who together make up over a quarter of the population. Those communities have survived very successfully in Syria for centuries, but the present revolution is a threat to their continued existence.

Sadly, Westerners tend to assume that Arabs are, necessarily, Muslims, and moreover, that Muslims are a homogeneous bunch. Actually, 10 percent of Syrians are Alawites, members of a notionally Islamic sect that actually draws heavily from Christian and even Gnostic roots: they even celebrate Christmas. Locally, they were long known as Nusayris, “Little Christians.” Syria is also home to several hundred thousand Druze, who are even further removed from Sunni orthodoxy.

And then there are the Christians. If Christianity began in Galilee and Judea, it very soon made its cultural and intellectual home in Syria. The Apostle Paul famously visited Damascus, and for centuries Antioch was one of the world’s greatest Christian centers. (The city today stands just over the Turkish border.) A sizable Christian population flourished under Islamic rule, and continued under the Ottomans. Muslim and Christian populations always interacted closely here. A shrine in Damascus’s Great Mosque claims to be the location of John the Baptist’s head.

Christian numbers fluctuated dramatically over time. A hundred years ago, “Syria,” broadly defined, was home to a large and diverse Christian population, including Catholics, Orthodox, and Maronites. In the 1920s, the French arbitrarily carved out the country’s most Christian sections and designated that region “Lebanon,” with its capital at Beirut.

In theory, that partition should have drawn a clear line between Christian Lebanon and non-Christian Syria. But Syria itself was changing in the aftermath of the catastrophic events of the First World War. The year 1915 marked the beginning of the horrendous genocide of perhaps 1.5 million Armenians, as well as hundreds of thousands of Assyrians, Maronites, and other Christian groups. After the war, Christians increasingly concentrated in Syria, where they benefited from French protection.

Arab Christians, though, were anything but imperial puppets. Determined to avoid a repetition of the horrors of 1915, Christians struggled to create a new political order in which they could play a full role. This meant advocating fervent Arab nationalism, a thoroughly secular order in which Christians and other minorities could avoid being overwhelmed by the juggernaut power of Sunni Islam. All Arab peoples, regardless of faith, would join in a shared passion for secular modernity and pan-Arab patriotism, in stark contrast to reactionary Islamism. The pioneering theorist of modern Arab nationalism was Damascus-born Orthodox Christian Constantine Zureiq. Another Orthodox son of Damascus was Michel Aflaq, co-founder of the Ba’ath (Renaissance) Party that played such a pivotal role in the modern history of both Iraq and Syria.

Since the 1960s, Syria has been a Ba’athist state, which in practice has meant the hegemony of the religious minorities who dominate the country’s military and intelligence apparatus. Hafez al-Assad (President from 1971 through 2000) was of course an Alawite, but by the 1990s, five of his seven closest advisers were Christian. His son Bashar is the current president, and America’s nemesis in the region.

Quite apart from their political influence, Christians have done very well indeed in modern Syria. Although they try to avoid drawing too much attention, it is no secret that Aleppo (for instance) has a highly active Christian population. Christian numbers have even grown significantly since the 1990s, as Iraqis fled the growing chaos in that country. Officially, Christians today make up around 10 percent of Syria’s people, but that is a serious underestimate, as it omits so many refugees, not to mention thinly disguised crypto-believers. A plausible Christian figure is at least 15 percent, or three million people.

To describe the Ba’athist state’s tolerance is not, of course, to justify its brutality, or its involvement in state-sanctioned crime and international terrorism. But for all that, it has sustained a genuine refuge for religious minorities, of a kind that has been snuffed out elsewhere in the region. Although many Syrian Christians favor democratic reforms, they know all too well that a successful revolution would almost certainly put in place a rigidly Islamist or Salafist regime that would abruptly end the era of tolerant diversity. Already, Christians have suffered terrible persecution in rebel-controlled areas, with countless reports of murder, rape, and extortion.

Under its new Sunni rulers, minorities would likely face a fate like that in neighboring Iraq, where the Christian share of population fell from 8 percent in the 1980s to perhaps 1 percent today. In Iraq, though, persecuted believers had a place to which they could escape, namely Syria. Where would Syrian refugees go?

A month ago, that question was moot, as the Assad government was gaining the upper hand over the rebels. At worst, it seemed, the regime could hold on to a rump state in Syria’s west, a refuge for Alawites, Christians, and others. And then came the alleged gas attack, and the overheated U.S. response.

So here is the nightmare. If the U.S., France, and some miscellaneous allies strike at the regime, they could conceivably so weaken it that it would collapse. Out of the ruins would emerge a radically anti-Western regime, which would kill or expel several million Christians and Alawites. This would be a political, religious, and humanitarian catastrophe unparalleled since the Armenian genocide almost exactly a century ago.

Around the world, scholars and intellectual leaders are debating how to commemorate the approaching centennial of that cataclysm in 2015. Through its utter lack of historical awareness, the United States government may be pushing towards not a commemoration of the genocide but a faithful re-enactment.

Even at this late moment, can they yet be brought to see reason?

  • The Fake News Is the New News

    Everything is Fake Now

    Author: Daniel Greenfield

“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away,” Philip K. Dick said, when asked to define what reality is. Dick was a Science Fiction writer and that seems appropriate enough we are living in a Science Fiction world where there is no reality anymore, because the real goes away, but the unreal does not.

    dali-illusion

Virtual reality, it turned out, was not some complicated gizmo that made you look like a blind skier and allowed you to enter into another world, instead it was an unreal world being comprehensively overlaid on top of our own. The lines between the real and the unreal haven't blurred because the unreal has gotten so much more sophisticated. The unreal is more fake than ever, but discerning that has become more difficult now that the real has gone away.

As we watch the news covering a story, what we are actually watching is the media making up a story and then telling that story incessantly and embedding it in every nook and cranny of their coverage. This blurring of the lines between the real and the fake is not happening thanks to the magic of technology, but the prosaic methods of complete insincerity.

The fake is being overlaid on the real, like men fighting on top of a board with a movie of a train passing by in the background to give the impression that they are fighting on top of it. Such cheap trickery defines our media environment where reporters barge into events and badger the participants into playing along with their movie. Or they just play the clip of actual events and frame them so that everyone hears their version of what is going on.

There's Godzilla and we know he's real because we can see Tokyo in the background. There's the latest media narrative and we know it's real, because we can see Tampa in the background as some blow-dried buffoon does breathing exercises before commencing to tell us that the Republican Party, which supports things that would have made Ike and Ron have coronaries, has gone so far to the right that it might as well be a Godzilla of reactionary running dog capitalism.

This is our shoddy virtual reality with a CNN or MSNBC logo planted on top. There is you still sitting on your same old couch, watching Chris Matthews yelling himself hoarse about racism, because racism is our virtual reality. It is the world that we are supposed to live in and Chris' job, for which he receives some 5 million a year, is to convince us that we are living in it.

"Racism," Chris yells at the screen, like the idiot shaman of some stone age tribe, and those dull-witted enough to believe him nod knowingly, because it makes them feel as if they know something. And in a world where nothing is real, knowing something makes them feel a little less confused. They don't understand why the prices are suddenly so high and the bank won't give them a loan-- but they can understand that Republicans are bad people and somehow responsible for it.

Some 70 percent of Barack Obama's Twitter followers may be fake, but why quibble at such numbers. The people who decided to make Obama popular did so through constant repetition that translated into the peer pressure of the trend. Obama became a trending topic and everyone followed along because in an unreal world, you follow the unreal leader.

Obama is fake, his popularity is fake, but it's also real, because fake is now the ultimate reality. The purveyors of fakeness have demonstrated their ability to transform the unreal into the real through manufactured consensus. By insisting that something unpopular was popular often enough, they made it popular. And by insisting that something popular is really unpopular, they did the opposite.

The Solomon Asch study showed that people will change their correct answers to conform with the wrong answers that are being given by others. The false consensus has operated on that same paradigm, convincing people of two lies; that the wrong answer is the right answer and that everyone else has already agreed that the wrong answer is correct.

Doing all that is impossible unless people lose touch with the real. The wraparound nature of the media has made it so that the unreal never goes away. The unreal is so pervasive because it has so many outlets and we are all wired into one or more of them. If the unreal doesn't get into your head one way, it will do it another way. The viral virus adapts because its designers are intelligent. And most of all they are persistent. They aren't just malicious or in it for the money, though both those things are also true, they believe. They are missionaries and their goal is to convert you into fodder for their malicious money machine.

    virtual_reality_head

Reality hasn't gone away, but we have gone away from it. Enough of us have gone down into the dream, grasped a thread of the story and allowed it to sweep us away. Given a choice between the red pill and the blue pill, they have unconsciously chosen the blue pill without ever being aware that they had a choice. And they are cushioned in this virtual world by a government that promises to take care of them and their children and their children's children until the end of time.

It's a lie, but knowing a lie for what it is requires either being able to do the math or have the common sense to know it for what it is. And common sense is derived from rough and tumble contact with reality. And reality has gotten harder to find these days. It requires unplugging all the belief channels, stepping out into the fresh air and trying to see what still remains when all the things that the belief trends told you to believe in have gone away.

There is a very specific category of people who are uncomfortable with the way things are and for the most part these are the people who have ongoing forcible contact with realities that don't go away when the talking head begins jabbering, the memes begin spewing and the trending topics trend. These are the people who work for a living outside the bubble, who know that external safety nets are unreliable and that they are always on the edge of something... even if they don't always know what.

It isn't wealth that is the determinant. Many of the wealthy occupy a wholly unreal world. A world where things happen because they want them to. It's what makes the technocracy of the last three administrations so seductive to powerful men and women who begin to think that they truly can move the world. It's the edge that matters, the sharp sense of pain that reminds you that there is a sharp reality here that isn't going away.

In a world where the fake seems real, the real seems fake. Obama seems more real than Romney and Ryan because he has mastered the art of the unreal. Television reality is not the same thing as reality, but it can seem more real, that is until you see how fake television makeup appears in real life. But there is no more real life in that sense. Not anymore.

    the_fake_media

Television is no longer a thing into which people step into and then step out of again. It no longer has that sense of being a passing moment where an appearance is insubstantial because it is temporary. Now television is permanent. It doesn't turn off late at night, the eagle doesn't fly above a painted backdrop while the anthem plays. It is everywhere because video is everywhere. Everything is being captured on video through the eyes of surveillance cameras, teenagers pointing cell phones at each other and men sitting in their room and declaiming at a webcam. The real and the fake have merged to spawn something that is real enough to be properly fake and fake enough to pass for real. It is a collective creative act, our final artform whose title is simply, "Life", as envisioned by those who no longer know what life is.

Obama feels real because he has that same unreal quality, that sense of always being onstage, of an actor who is never out of character because he is always performing. It is an artificial reality that seems super-real, because like video it has that intensity and immediacy that exists to satiate the attention deficit disorder with a surfeit of stimulation. It seems real, only because we no longer know what real is.

When a disaster happens, people reach for an instant baseline of comparison in a movie. Real tragedy seems unreal because it seems cinematic. The story of Obama is equally cinematic, it is real because it is like a movie. Except it isn't a movie, and yet it is, because we experience it in two ways, through the real connection with the economic consequences of his policies, and through the unreal display of his teleprompter fed blatherings, the easy grin that he practices in a mirror and the eyes that never quite look at anything because they are their own reflection.

    obama-teleprompter-reuters

Obama is a real disaster that seems cinematic. We have all seen this movie, but we have seen two versions of the movie. In one version, a bad unfit man climbs to power and ruthlessly abuses power to achieve his ends. In the other version, a good saintly man is elected and fights desperately to keep the bad men from abusing power. Which of those movies you think you are watching depends on a variety of factors. But the problem is that reality isn't a movie. And it doesn't go away when you change the channel.

When all the bubbles of rhetoric pop, there are still the hard unpleasant realities to deal with. Bailouts and money pits can only bury them for so long. Governments sending money to banks and swapping worthless commodities that only exist in the theory of a theory only work for as long as people believe in them.

Even an unreal economy reported on by an unreal media cheering on an unreal leader can only run for so long until reality punches through the illusion, the curtain falls, the magicians scramble off the stage with rabbits and doves tucked into their pants, and everyone wakes up to realize that the dream is over and we realize that we are entering a world where the stories no longer matter and history is about to begin.
